A SERIOUS 2 VEHICLE CRASH CLOSES INTERSECTION

Police have shut down the intersection of River Road and Bensfort Road because of a serious crash reportedly involving a dump truck and car. Police say the crash took place just before 1:00pm. One woman has been taken to hospital, potentially with serious injuries.

POLICE INVESTIGATING AFTER TWO CITY BARS WERE BROKEN INTO

Police are investigating after two bars in the city were broken into last week. On Sunday August 24th at around 1:45am, the Porch and Pint on Lansdowne Street East was broken into. Officials say theives caused about $250 damage and stole about $500 in cash.

CITY POLICE INVESTIGATE ROBBERY NEAR LAKE AND WESTCOTT

An investigation is ongoing following a weekend robbery. City police were called Saturday morning, after a 29 year-old man reported that he was pulled to the ground and robbed of his wallet at knifepoint in the area of Lake and Westcott.

THOUSANDS HEAD BACK TO THE CLASSROOM

Students across the Kawartha Pine Ridge School Board are headed back to classes today, as the 2014/15 school year begins. While returning students are excited to get back to see old friends, some students will be coming to the area for the first time and starting at new schools.

One great thing about the start of school; it means the beginning of the university sports schedule. Over the weekend, Trent didn't get off to a good start of the pitch. On Saturday, both the men's and women's soccer teams were beaten by Carleton.

PETES WIN PRE-SEASON OPENER OVER BELLEVILLE

The Petes started the pre-season on a winning note. Peterborough rallied back to beat Belleville 4-3 in a shootout. Some rookies came up big with impending cuts, including rookie defenceman Adam Timleck.

GAME 7 LOSS MAY TAKE AWHILE TO GET OVER FOR LAKERS

It was close but no cigar for the Peterborough Lakers. In front of a crowd of over 3,700 fans, the Lakers closed out their 2014 season with a loss in Game 7 of the MSL Final 9-5 to the Six Nations Chiefs. Head Coach Joe Sullivan believes this loss may sting for awhile.

School isn't the only thing that is back in session. The Dean Del Mastro trial returns to court after a lengthy break due to scheduling problems. Peterborough's MP is facing charges from Elections Canada that he overspent during the 2008 federal election.

RESIDENTS JOIN TOGETHER TO SUPPORT OVERDOSE AWARENESS

You may have noticed a little more in the way of silver clothing this weekend. Yesterday was International Overdose Awareness Day. Health Promoter with the Peterborough County-City Health Unit, Deanna VandenBroek says, a day to reduce stigma of a drug-related death.
