RURAL TRANSIT PROGRAM IN CKL TO END THIS SUMMER

Low ridership numbers have spelled the end to the Rural Transit Program in the City of Kawartha Lakes. Council decided to scrap the project, which began in June of 2013, because operating costs were getting too expensive and passenger numbers weren't sustainable.

After more than a year of wondering, Liberal Party supporters will have a chance to decide who will represent the party when we go to the polls for the next Federal Election. Party members will gather on May 2nd at noon, to choose the candidate for the new riding of Peterborough-Kawartha.

CFGP DONATES $25,000 TO YMCA

The Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough is making a strong commitment to the local YMCA. The CFGP Board announced this week, it will donate $25,000 to the YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign, which raises money for youth programs at the local branch.

CITY POLICE INVESTIGATE BREAK-INS ON BETHUNE AND CLIFTON

A Macbook Pro, iPad mini, tools, jewellery and clothes have been stolen from a home on Clifton Street. City Police say the items were taken from the home, sometime during the day yesterday. The total value of goods stolen is about $5,000 and at this point, police have no suspects.

23 YEAR-OLD MAN CHARGED AFTER DRUG BUST

A drug bust on George Street has led to a court date for a 23 year-old man. Peterborough police made the arrest last night after they stopped the accused and seized almost $3,000 in cash, some marijuana and over 150 grams of cocaine.

MITCHELL STEPHENS OFF TO A GOOD START AT U18 TOURNAMENT

Mitchell Stephens' is wearing the 'C' for Canada in Switzerland and he certainly led by example in the opening game of the Under-18 World Hockey Championship. The Canadians skated to an 11-6 win over Latvia, with the Peterborough-native picking up two goals and an assist.

PETERBOROUGH MPP UPDATES AVIAN FLU SITUATION

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is continuing to keep a close-eye on the avian flu outbreak in southwestern Ontario, as is the provincial Minister of Agriculture. Peterborough MPP Jeff Leal says 29 poultry farms remain under quarantine.
