It was much closer than perhaps it should have been, but the Merit Precision Jr. A Lakers held off the Brampton Excelsiors 8-7 in Game 5 on Monday night, to advance to their first OLA Final since 2006. Here's Scott Arnold with the full recap.

RIBBON CUTTING ON WEST END SPLASHPAD SET FOR THURSDAY

Just in time to combat this brutal heatwave, the City of Peterborough is set to officially open its newest splashpad. The new west-end splashpad and play zone has been built on the Kinsmen Rec Centre Property and dignitaries will cut the ribbon on Thursday at 11:00 a.m.

POLICE ID RECENT VEHICULAR DEATH VICTIMS

Police report that an elderly man, involved in a crash in Trend Lakes earlier this month has passed away. 88 year old Donald Howell was driving on Lakehurst Road on the 17th, and left the roadway hitting a stand of trees. Mr Howell was transported by air ambulance to a Toronto hospital.

PETERBOROUGH TEENS CHARGED FOLLOWING BREAK AND ENTER ON LONDON STREET

A trio of Peterborough teens are in some hot water after a break-and-enter on London Street. City police say on Saturday, officers and the K9 Unit found three men hiding in a wooded area of property belonging to Peterborough Utilities.

21 YEAR-OLD CHARGED IN APRIL COLLISION IN THE CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES

A 21 year-old man has been charged in connection to a collision with an OPP cruiser earlier this year. The accident took place on April 13th in the City of Kawartha Lakes on Glenarm Road, west of Killarney Bay Road.

COUNTY TEEN PRONOUNCED DEAD IN WEEKEND CRASH

Police have identified the victim of a head on crash Friday night east of the city. The OPP say just before 10 o'clock, a westbound car, for unknown reasons, crossed the centre line and collided head on with an eastbound pick up truck.

Peterborough Police have laid a slew of charges against a senior following a sexual assault investigation. Originally, officers were looking into an incident that occurred in July 2014.

JR. A LAKERS CAN'T COMPLETE SWEEP IN BRAMPTON

The brooms were out in Brampton, but there was no sweeping to be done. The Merit Precision Jr. A Lakers lost for the first time in over a month, 14-9 against the Excelsiors. The downfall in this game was the middle frame, as Brampton outscored Peterborough 10-1 in the second period.

When it comes to economic development, Peterborough is still a very lucrative destination for businesses of all shapes and sizes. That is the opinion of city councillor Dan McWilliams who was a guest on the John Badham Show recently. McWilliams says the city is a major player in a lot of projects.
