The dreams of two Petes' players came true this weekend in Buffalo. Jonathan Ang was selected by the Florida Panthers 94th overall in the NHL Entry Draft and goalie Dylan Wells was picked 123rd by Edmonton.

MSL: LAKERS WIN, KODIAKS LOSE

The Peterborough Lakers have extended their lead at the top of the MSL standings. Peterborough went on the road a thumped Brooklin 14-6 on Saturday night. Mark Steenhuis had six points, while Matt Vinc made 21 saves between the pipes.

MORE THAN $20,000 RAISED DURING CYCLING EVENT

More than 180 cyclists took part in a first time event this weekend in support of mental health. The local branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association put on the 'Ride Don't Hide' event yesterday at Nicholls Oval. The event was a success and helped raise almost $26,000.

CITY COUNCIL MEETING TO TAKE PLACE AT MARKET HALL

A new, comprehensive animal bylaw is up for final approval at this evening's meeting of city council. If approved, there would be a ban on backyard chickens and stricter guidelines for roaming cats. Councillor Andrew Beamer supports the bylaw.

It was a record setting weekend in Peterborough. Yesterday, 138 kayaks and canoes jammed Peterborough's Lock 21 shattering the city's previous high set 13 years ago.

RESIDENTS SHARE IDEAS ON HOW TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE

How we can best tackle the issue of climate change was the subject of a town hall meeting over the weekend. The Clean Growth and Climate Change was hosted by Peterborough MP Maryam Monsef on Saturday at All Saints Anglican Church.

MAN HELPED FROM OTONABEE RIVER

Thankfully a problem on the water over the weekend didn't lead to a tragedy. Peterborough Police, along with fire and paramedics, were called on Saturday afternoon to help out a man in the Otonabee River. The victim didn't suffer any serious injuries.

NO CRIME TIED TO THE DISCOVERY OF A MAN'S BODY

The death of a man whose body was found in a wooded area near Chandos Lake was not the result of a crime. Peterborough County OPP were called to investigate after the man?s body was found near Bayshore Road, on the east Shore of Chandos Lake just after 5:30 yesterday.

The City of Peterborough is prepping for a possible strike at Canada Post. Less than 2 months after the Prime Minister launched a review of the federal agency and restored door to door service, their employees are ready to walk off the job.
