PETERBOROUGH MAN CHARGED IN THEFT INVESTIGATION

A shoplifting incident at the LCBO store on Chemong Road earlier this month has led to a charge for a Peterborough man. Police say on October 6th, the accused stole a bottle of alcohol. Staff at the store knew the man's identity and contacted authorities.

SENTENCE HANDED DOWN TO TIPPETT FOR OBSTRUCTION CONVICTION

Stanley Tippett now knows what his punishment will be for obstruction of justice. The Examiner reports the 41 year-old was sentenced to 22 months of concurrent jail time yesterday in the Superior Court of Justice in Cobourg.

Local hockey fans had the chance to meet a Hall of Famer and former Stanley Cup Champion. Doug Gilmour was at Chapters on Lansdowne Street last night signing copies of his new book. The Kingston-native says his time with the Maple Leafs will always stand out among his favourite memories.

'National Foster Family Week' highlights the need for foster parents and shines a light on the role families play in the safety of children. For the special week, Kawartha-Haliburton Children's Aid Society hosted a lunch earlier this week for its foster parents and presented service awards.

'THE SPILL' SHUTS DOWN SUDDENLY

Many of those who frequented 'The Spill' are no doubt surprised by its sudden closure this week. The establishment closed its doors on Wednesday. Owner Dave Tobey has yet to make an official announcement on what happened or any future plans.

UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN REACHES $300,000 IN DONATIONS

There is still a long way to go for the annual United Way campaign, but it is off to a good start. Yesterday, officials announced $300,000 has been raised so far. Campaign Chair Neil Morton says it's great to get off to such a quick start.

DESIGN FOR NEW SCHOOL UNVEILED

The plans for Peterborough's soon-to-be newest school have been unveiled. Last night, a public meeting was held at King George Public School. The new school is expected to be built next year next to King George and then open in 2019.
